I can’t express how proud I am of you! I can’t express how scared I am for you! I can’t express how excited I am for you!
My dear child, you are starting year two!
I am so sorry I forgot to sit down and ask you how you are feeling. You are on a journey through school and with out realising the years of play have vanished before my eyes.
School is serious, school can be cruel, school can be fun. How did you become so clever? How did you become so brave? How did you become so funny?
Did you play with your friends today? Did you learn anything new? Did you have fun today? Please, oh please, I would like to know.
I listen to your stories and a little piece of my heart grows, a little piece of my happiness grows and a little piece of my love grows.
I watch as I leave you with the childminder each morning, I wonder how your day will be. Will anyone be mean to you? Will anyone be kind to you? Will anyone help you with your work?
You have learnt so much this year, now you can read, now you can write, and now you can tie you shoe laces. You don’t need mummy’s help anymore, you are doing this alone.
You walk alone on this journey, you are brave, you are my soldier and you are my star. Will anyone else see what I see? Will the teacher know when you are sad but most of all will you know that I love you!
